Artist Profile
Toby Neilan
Photography forms the basis of Toby Neilan’s images, which he works on digitally, introducing hand drawn elements, geometric forms and a strong sense of colour, combined with expressive mark making.
As an illustrator and screen printer with a clean, familiar technique, Neilan’s two main subjects are architecture and fashion. Often inspired by mid 20th Century urban concrete structures and innovative forms, the Zaha Hadid series sees Neilan depict a number of the British Iraqi deconstructive architect’s notable buildings as a commission for Mark magazine.
Fashion projects include collaborative work with make-up artist Sharon Dowsett and a window installation for Issey Miyake’s Flagship London store. He has also produced visuals for Kylie for her X World Tour, and American rapper Jay-Z in collaboration with design and lighting specialists U.V.A.
London based Neilan studied at Chelsea School of Art and at Middlesex University where he specialised in printmaking. Other high profile international clients include IBM, Nike and American Express, and he has shown his work at various exhibitions worldwide.
